COMMITTED PARTNER TO NYS AND SERVING ITS COMMUNITIES

COMMUNITY BENEFITS

Once operational, Flint Mine Solar will be a significant contributor to the tax base of Greene County and the host communities of Athens and Coxsackie. The project will contribute long-term and stable sources of tax revenue and other local revenues that support schools, public services, and other community priorities.

Additional community benefits include:

  • Producing a new supply of locally generated clean energy to help meet New York’s growing energy demand with the goal of reducing energy costs for consumers.
  • Creating local and regional jobs during construction, with additional long-term operations and maintenance roles over the life of the project.
  • Protecting and enhancing grassland, wetland habitats, and culturally significant areas within the project area, including dedicated portions conserved for wildlife habitat and open space.
  • Utilizing portions of unused farmland to improve soil health through long-term vegetation management and ground cover establishment.

GOOD NEIGHBORS

Flint Mine Solar is committed to being a good neighbor in Coxsackie, Athens, and Greene County. The project has gone through New York’s Article 10 review process, including extensive environmental, visual, and community impact studies and public engagement.

The project has been designed to minimize visual impact of the solar panels from nearby residential properties and major roads, including U.S. Highway 9W and Schoharie Turnpike, through careful siting and vegetation screening. Flint Mine Solar will also implement strategies to avoid, minimize, and mitigate potential impacts on local archaeological resources, wildlife habitats, and water resources.
